Post hurricane Cabo San Lucas and Los Cabos is experiencing a renaissance with newly refurbished properties, some of which are basically new builds having been destroyed. However, there is plenty of new game in town with big luxury names like Montage and The Four Seasons, along with the Ritz-Carlton Reserve opening in the coming years. The current demand on properties is pushing rates year round to ADR's climbing to $1000 a night to start. Which is why it caused me to pause when meeting with Thompson Hotel's new The Cape. It sits on a swimmable bay (in most seasons), ten minutes drive to downtown Cabo. Every room is ocean front, very modern and urban, with entry level rooms starting at 600sq ft. The private beach is not shared with other hotels. And here's the kicker: the honeymoon worthy panoramic suite prices start at $900 per night and has its own plunge pool. And in an already super competitive market with some iconic properties in the neighborhood, the Waldorf-Astoria Beverly Hills aspires to be game changer in the ultra chic square mile the encompasses the Rodeo Drive neighborhood. While my heart already belongs to others in the vicitny because they scream nostalgia and have a true sense of place, kudos to the Waldorf-Astoria for creating competitive advantages such as their panoramic Hollywood views and all guests rooms have an outdoor terrace to enjoy the year round sunshine. Slated to open in April for reservations starting June 1.

However, if you love Aman style you will be happy to know it has just reopened after a major refurbishment bringing it up to Aman standards.
