6 Ultimate Fly-Fishing Adventure Destinations

1. Seychelles

An hour charter flight from Mahe in the Seychelles lands you on Alphonse Island where Alphonse Island Lodge greets with warmth and hospitality. Chalets facing the beach and endless flats on which to wade are the perfect answer to prolific fly fishing opportunities. Each chalet has bicycles on which to ride to the dining room, spa, around the small island and to the fishing dock from which a large catamaran takes off each morning to St Francois atoll where the flats boats are moored. This location is best for Bonefish, Permit and Giant Trevally.

2. Belize

An easy 2.5 hour flight from Dallas, Houston or Miami, Belize is a perfect destination for both adventure and fly fishing. With some of the best Permit Flats in the South of Belize, there is also plenty of Bonefishing and Tarpon all along the coast from lodges on Cayes and Islands. Copal Tree Lodge offers luxury accommodations and great food down in the South of Belize; Turtle Inn for jungle adventure and fly fishing and El Pescador for “right on the beach” access on Ambergris Caye. Good guides and quality flats boats are standard. It’s a divers paradise with the second best reef in the world, after Australia’s Great Barrier reef, with locations like the Great Blue Hole.

3. Wyoming

Whether wading or rafting a river, from Jackson Hole and the Yellowstone to Brush Creek Ranch, in the North Platte River Valley, fly fishing for Trout, both Rainbow and Browns is a lot of fun. Stay in the cute town of Jackson Hole at Four Season's or at the famous Amangani for super comfort, service and gorgeous views. The fly shops in Jackson Hole all have wonderful guides and the rivers to go along with them. Brush Creek is an all-inclusive family friendly Ranch and offers over 20 miles of limitless fly fishing. Choose Magee Homestead for a family buyout or fly off to French Creek for remote fishing.

4. Montana

Low key and great fishing on the prolific Bighorn River, Kingfisher Lodge offers wonderful guides, wading and rafting in McKenzie-style drift boats. The great teaching guides make the lodge and the river especially fun for both the novice young fisherman just learning or the older guy who loves to sit in the boat and fish, enjoying both the fishing and the great scenery with eagles and beavers along the river. It’s a 90 minute drive from Billings, Montana.

For another all inclusive option that tops all expectations, take the family or celebration to the Ranch at Rock Creek just an hour from Missoula. The ranch offers 4 miles of private access on Rock Creek; go with one of their expert guides or just wander yourself. Kids love the teaching guides, horseback riding to a breakfast cookout and the sporting clays and trap shooting. It’s an adventure dream come true.

5. Chilean Patagonia

Unlimited rivers, opportunities for easy wading for Brown Trout in spectacular surroundings, the many lodges in Patagonia make Chile a trip of a lifetime. Whether you choose the Coyhaique River Lodge or one of the many others, there are options for fishing large rivers, small streams or Spring Creeks. Chilean guides are friendly and knowledgeable. And the exciting other activities are endless whether hiking, climbing, wine tasting or mountain biking. Top it off with a 4 day trip over to Easter Island at the Explora Rapa Nui Lodge, a 5 hour flight from Santiago (you’ll never be closer). Seeing the Moai and hearing the mysteries around their being carved and why is a great experience.

6. Alaska

Fishing with a Bear across the river is an unforgettable experience. It’s their river, so the guides are very accommodating to the owners! Still, it’s fun to see them eating Salmon or running after them. Flying to Anchorage and then on a scheduled charter to Mission Bay Lodge on Bristol Bay is only the start of a week of Salmon and Trout fishing. Opportunities to fly out every day to remote rivers or lakes, pick up the motor boat stashed there and fish to your heart’s content with excellent guides is the best.

Return to a very special lodge and delicious meals – you can’t beat it to get away from it all.
