There’s no better way to get to know a destination than to mix with the locals with one of their coveted, indigenous events. And dress for the occasion to join the fun. Debauchery abounds between an afternoon of polo matches in the Hamptons or polishing off an evening at Le Ti in St. Barth’s. Carnival - Venice, Italy

An invitation to a Carnival Ball is not to be missed. But to attend you must arrive in masquerade, perhaps costumed as a doge for the men and your best Marie Antionette for the ladies. . Masquerade Ball attendees typically sport traditional Venetian masquerade masks, capes, or gowns. Not to worry, your ball attire is easily found in one of the local shops that specializes in masquerade ball attire.

With two million people per day, Carnival Rio attendees enjoy the samba, the music, the parties, and of course the costumes Color, Color, COLOR - this is most important when choosing your outfit, The more colorful and elaborate, the better. People also tend to opt for actual costumes like police officers, sailors, and pirates. Sequins, feathers, and flowers all are popular additions as well. Just remember that Rio summer's can be HOT.

Regardless of which Enclosure you are invited in, women are expected to wear an elegant yet appealing dress of modest length with straps greater than one inch. Strapless, off the shoulder, halter, or spaghetti straps are not permitted. Extravagant hats with fine detail tend to make an appearance as well. For Gentleman, it does vary based on your Enclosure but the typical attire consists of suits, waistcoats, ties, and hats. When picking your outfit, just remember, the Queen WILL be in attendance after all.

Although guests usually attend for the champagne and Instagram worthy pictures rather than to see who wins, it is still one of the most sought after events each year in the Hamptons for those who can get a ticket.
