If you don’t think international travel is what you want to do this summer, a wonderful alternative for couples, singles and families is a Western Ranch experience. From the Rivers and forests of Montana, to the mountains of Colorado and the canyons of Utah, there is a home on the range for every budget and activity.
A short float plane ride from Vancouver located on First Nation Land. The glamping tents are luxurious yet rustic and placed strategically with views of the bay, river and forest. Completely remote, the activities include horseback riding, fishing, hiking, kayaking, fabulous food and loads of kids activities. Families fall in love with the experience. Bear sightings top the list.
Couples, cooking classes, wine tasting, horseback riding, ATV touring, hiking in the Bitteroot Mountains and fly fishing on the river where the movie “The River Runs Through It” was filmed. They have their own horses and fishing guides with the river right at their doorstep. My grand kids came racing into my room one morning jumping with excitement to tell me there was an elk right at our doorstep.

Located between Durango and Telluride in Colorado. It’s an old silver mining town which was totally in ruins. The new owners were told they’d have to tear it down and build anew. They instead restored the old town including a chapel and library and old schoolhouse. A mountain waterfall provides a background for the outdoor wedding venue. Hot Springs both inside and out for year round use – very romantic. Four miles down the road, a luxury 12 tent camp, its own chef and dining room makes a perfect take over for groups, weddings or celebrations. Whether there in the April snow, as we were, summer mountain The cabins are single rooms or multi-bedroom for families. Sorrel River Ranch and Spa
On the Colorado River, a remote lodge with rafting, hiking, horseback riding. Lodge rooms and casitas right on the river. Rafting the Colorado River
Grand Canyon, AZ
The best way to see the Grand Canyon? A 6 day raft trip through the Canyon. History, ancient canyon archaeology with the most amazing guides. Daily hiking, visiting Navajo ruins and cave paintings, exciting rapids, campfires every night, basic camping, showers and Margarita night. The Grand Canyon is so deep and magical; it’s like being in a cathedral for 6 days. Helicopter out to Vegas after Lava Falls, the most exciting rapids. Great for kids 10 and older – they will never forget it.
Rafting the Middle Fork of the Salmon
Raft the “ River of No Return” – the guides put up the tents, the bar, barbecue the food over outdoor fires and lead hikes to hot springs, supervise fly fishing and maneuver the rapids. Great family or couples trip. Perfect Girls trip – the guides even brought Cigars for my girls trip.
Houseboating Lake Powell
You’ll never know if you don’t try it. Lake Powell has 160 miles of shoreline. Do it yourself or hire a Captain; we know the houseboats, getting the food on board and navigating the lake to camping sites, Navajo granaries, water skiing and wake boarding. Fishing for Bass and visiting Rainbow Bridge.
