Press Release by the Australian Tourism Board; Host of my latest trip to Australia
AUSTRALIA…. PURE LUXURY!
Fifty-two of the most sought after travel agents from the Virtuoso network in North America went on an eight-night educational tour experiencing some of Australia’s finest luxury product.
The tour began with an opening evening in Brisbane’s Palazzo Versace Gold Coast before splitting off into four separate itineraries across Australia.
Queensland’s Hamilton and Hayman Islands were the destinations for one group of agents who were privileged to experience, Qualia, a luxury resort that has been recently recognized in Travel + Leisure’s hot list as one of the Top 30 New Hotels in the World. Lizard Island and Bale Port Douglas brought further style and sophistication to the event for this group.
The Byron at Bryon Resort and Spa in one of most idyllic wellness settings in Australia provided the hospitality for another set of well-pampered agents, and Lilianfels, the five star Orient Express Resort & Spa in the Blue Mountains proved to be a haven of relaxation for another. Further south, a warm rustic welcome nestled high in the Tasmanian wilderness awaited the Virtuoso agents at Cradle Mountain Lodge.
Meanwhile, in South Australia’s remote Kangaroo Island, North American Virtuoso agents became the first group of travel agents to experience first-hand the incredible architecture and environmentally focused design of the recently opened Southern Ocean Lodge by James Baillie.
The educational ended with the marketplace sponsored by Sydney’s Intercontinental Hotel and a gala dinner at the Sydney Opera House where Tourism Australia’s Vice President Americas, and co-host of the trip, Michelle Gysberts, reminded the audience of the importance of their job.
“It’s particularly important in the current economic climate that we continue to highlight Australia’s increasing appeal and range of product to the top-spending, elite North American travelers. This market will continue to travel and once they have experienced the pure relaxation and incredible natural beauty of Australia, they will be coming back for more,” said Gysberts.
During the course of the eight night trip, guests indulged in activities such as snorkeling in crystal clear waters, spa treatments in the rainforest, four wheel driving through the Australian bush, luxury cruising on the Sydney harbor, and getting up close and personal with Kangaroos and Koalas in the wild.
The tour was co-hosted with State Tourism Boards and US Tour Suppliers, all part of the Local Business Development Program (LBD) between Tourism Australia and Virtuoso. The LBD program is in its first year of activity and the educational is the centrepiece of an extensive training program for one of the most sought after group of travel agents in North America.
