Carol's Travel Bio
What is your travel vision?
My travel vision is not to sell travel to my clients, but to steer them to experiences they may not be able to arrange on their own – such as a private night tour to St Mark’s in Venice, or a visit to a local winemaker in Burgenland, Austria with a lunch of the local specialties.  I want my clients to have a journey of unique experiences and discovery.
What's in your carry on?

Electric converter and plugs appropriate to my destination, my camera, my black pashmina shawl, a book relating to my destination, “KIND” nutrition bars, medications, notebook and pen, a change of clothes for one day, and the usual quart size pack of things I may need during the flight – such as nasal spray, eyedrops, toothpaste, etc. Also my phone charger and camera charger, and an IPod filled with favorite music.

What is your most memorable or most inspiring travel experience?

A visit to South Africa was just amazing – including a stay at Kruger Park. We visited an Ostrich farm and I had the chance to ride one in a “race”.Staying at Elizabeth Bay, we saw an entire family of whales frolicking.

There are so many other fantastic memories including flying over Mt. Everest onan Easter morning, climbing the Great Wall of China, staying in a luxury hotel built into the caves of Cappadocia, Turkey, as Obama was voted in as President.  Stayed up until 4AM to watch that one!

What has been your best culinary experience/ memorable meal while traveling?

My most remarkable culinary experience took place in the 80’s on an extensive trip through France with a friend.  We stayed at several Relais & Chateau properties, and ate at 3* Michelin restaurants including Roger Verge’s Moulin de Mougins, Pic in Valence, Trois Gros Brothers in Roanne, George Blanc in Vonnas, Oustau de Baumaniere in Les Beax, Provence., La Pyramide in Vienne – among others.  My cholesterol was through the roof when I got home (could it have been all that fois gras?? Fortunately, the French franc was at a low point at that time…..Another outstanding culinary experience was on a trip with Bon Appetit to Turkey – all the best food Turkey had to offer, and it was amazing!

What is the one destination/experience you still want to go/have?

I would like to travel to South America more extensively, including the Antarctic.
My clients recently returned from  Lindblad trip to the Antarctic and had marvelous
experiences!

AUSTRIA DESTINATION SUMMIT – NOVEMBER 2010

A wonderful in-depth reintroduction to Vienna and all its charms, followed by several days in Burgenland (south Austria) which is the authentic wine country, and birthplace of Franz Liszt (who would be 200 years old this year).   There will be many concerts this year in the concert hall built next to the modest little home he was born in.  In Eisenstadt, you can visit Esterhazy Castle, where Hayden was musical director in his own concert hall for over 20 years.  This part of Austria once actually was part of Hungary.

TELLURIDE, COLORADO – MAY 2010

Few people know how accessible this beautiful destination is by driving from Phoenix.
The upper village is the place to stay, and you ride without cost up and down the cable cars to the village with all its charming shops and restaurants.

AZAMARA CRUISE – OCTOBER 2009

Beginning in Istanbul, and following an unusual itinerary around the coastline of Turkey to the South, which I had missed during my first trip there.  The towns of Bodrum and Antalya are not to be missed!   Then to Egypt, and a full day trip to the pyramids and many of the more unusual spots in Cairo.  Azamara has become much more all-inclusive in nature over the past year,  now including gratuities and wine with dinner.  We found the 700 passenger ship to be perfect size.
